Marion County Park District announces February 2016 events

Marion County Park District has announced that the following events will be held in February 2016.

February 4: The Tallgrass Trail Nature Center will be open from noon to 5pm, with a groundhog program at 4 pm. Join Naturalist Anderson for a story, craft, and many more activities. Main Street in Marion

February 11: The Tallgrass Trail Nature Center will be open from 1 pm to 6 pm, concluding with an Owl Prowl program at 5:00pm. Visitors will discuss the different owls found in Ohio and then dissect owl pellets, before going on a hike to try to find some owls.

February 13:  Valentine’s Day Hike from 1 to 4 pm at the Tallgrass Trail. Start when you please and hike as fast and far as you like, then enjoy hot chocolate and treats in the nature center. This is a come as you please hike.  Naturalist Anderson will begin a Great Backyard Bird Count program at 1:00pm. All ages and experience levels are welcome.

February 18: Join volunteer naturalist Mrs. Slagle for a snowflake program at the Tallgrass Trail from 4-5pm. This program is geared toward preschool children, but all ages are welcome.

February 23: Naturalist Anderson will lead a Mysterious Mammal program for adults at the Marion Public Library, starting at 7pm.

February 24: The Tallgrass Trail Nature Center will be open from noon to 5 pm, with a bird watching program at 4 pm

Additionally, volunteers will be working to clear the unpaved portion of the Tallgrass Trail on February 13 and 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. They will meet at the Tallgrass Trail parking lot and convoy to the work location.

Programs may be cancelled due to weather, in which case announcements will be made on the Marion County Park District and Tallgrass Trail Facebook pages.
