To kick-off National Boys & Girls Club Week, the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County invites the community to join more than 4,100 Clubs across the nation in its effort to empower America’s youth by supporting the ‘Youth Bill of Rights’ on change.org. The effort calls attention to importance of providing children and teens with a place and platform where they are encouraged to express their concerns and engage in community initiatives. Along with the Bill of Rights, the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County will host community events and activities that highlight the many ways that the Club is empowering the next generation of leaders in Marion, OH.
The Youth Bill of Rights, written by Club members, is a shining example of how youth are empowered and supported at Boys & Girls Clubs. Young voices have the power to create social and community change and in this election year Club teens are advocating for their rights and voices to be heard.
“The Boys & Girls Club of Marion County is dedicated to making a positive influence on children and teen in the Marion community. We are proud of the work that our Clubs are doing to make this community great,” said Sean DeWitt, Executive Director of the Marion Boys & Girls Club. “During this celebration we hope that the community is motivated by the things going on at the Club and are inspired to support our efforts.”
With the theme ‘Celebrate Red, White and Boys & Girls Club BLUE,’ National Boys & Girls Clubs Week, March 7-12, 2016 will feature the many ways the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County is opening the door to great futures for children and teens.
With the help of Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County will continue to share its impact by participating in the creation of the “Great Futures” quilt. The quilt will include patches from Clubs across the country that tell how individual Clubs are contributing to America’s great future in their community. The final quilt narrative art piece will be unveiled in May at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Conference in New Orleans, LA.
In addition to the activities during National Boys & Girls Club Week at the Marion Club, residents are invited to stop by and take a tour during the afterschool program.
Wrapping up the week will be the Club’s annual dinner and auction on Saturday, March 12. While tickets are limited, some are still available by contacting the Club. The auction will feature a number of live and silent items, a complete list of which can be found at their website.
