Mayor Scott Schertzer has announced his appointment of Randy Caryer to the position of Director of Public Service for the City of Marion. Caryer (pictured in a file photo from 2014) assumed his new duties on April 6, 2016.
In his position as Service Director, Caryer will oversee the operation of the City’s Airport, Maintenance, Information Technology, Parks, Senior Center, Transit, and Utility Billing Departments.
“I believe the relationships that Randy had previously established within local government, as well as his institutional knowledge of municipal administration and problem solving skills as a former internal affairs officer will be a great help not only to my administration but to our departments as well,” said Mayor Schertzer. “I am happy to have Randy working with the City of Marion again and know that he will work diligently for the residents of our city.”
Caryer returns to the City of Marion after retiring in 2014 from the Police Department, where he held positions ranging from Patrolman to Interim Chief from 1979 until the time of his retirement.
Randy is a graduate of River Valley High School and North Central Technical College. He and his wife Shannon reside in the Morral area.
