Marion Technical College (MTC) proudly announces that 226 students are graduating this May. At MTC’s Annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Palace Theatre in Marion, about 208 students will wear their gowns and mortarboards and receive their diplomas. They range in age from 19 to 60 years old.
The keynote speaker is Gary Branson, executive Director of the Marion Public Library. Branson is a passionate life-long learner. He received his associate’s degree of Applied Business from Edison State Community College, a bachelor’s of science in business and accounting from Wright State University and a master’s in Library Science from Kent State University.
“A two-year college gave me a wonderful opportunity to start my education,” said Branson. “It took me on a journey I never would have imagined. I’m excited to see how MTC’s graduates will change the world.”
The 2016 Student Speaker for MTC’s Commencement is Misty Fridley. She started at MTC in 1998. She stopped her studies to work full-time and raise her child. After her son died, Fridley decided to follow his advice to return to school and finish her Associate degree of Applied Science in Human and Social Services.
“You are never too late to start – or finish- your degree,” said Fridley. “A better life is waiting for you. All you have to do is make up your mind to do it.”
All guests over the age of 2 years old must have a ticket in order to attend. Tickets are only available through the graduates and cannot be purchased at the door. Guests should plan to arrive early as seating is extremely limited and the ceremony will begin promptly at 10 a.m. For more information, please call MTC at (740) 389-4636.
