Registration is open for “Set The Stage” summer camps at the Marion Palace Theatre

Registration is now open for “Set the Stage” Theatre Camps at the historic Marion Palace Theatre located in downtown Marion, Ohio. These week-long summer day camps offer youth ages 6 through 15 the opportunity to become involved in the arts. Registration deadline is one week before camp begins. Spaces fill quickly, so those interested are urged to register early.

“Set The Stage” Theatre Camps have been part of the theatre’s programming since 1998 and have become a summertime tradition for many young thespians of all skill levels. Youth who participate in “Set The Stage” Theatre Camp at the Marion Palace Theatre learn about the stage production process which includes learning lines and cues, preparing song and dance numbers and performing on the Palace stage. This camp will teach students acting skills, give them performance experience, build a sense of accomplishment, and most of all allow time to have fun. A new addition to the summer program is an all day theatre camp designed for older children.

Students may choose between camp dates July 25-July 29 and August 1-August 5. Students are divided into age appropriate camps.

Instructor Johnny Steiner is back to lead young actors ages 6 to 8 years through the production process of performing a stage mini-musical. Camps run Monday through Thursday from 10am to noon. On Friday all campers come together for rehearsals at 3pm with a final performance of the mini-musical SPACED OUT for friends and family at 5:30pm. Healthy snacks will be served midsession. Camp fee is $65.

With a growing interest among young thespians, the Palace is also growing this age group’s Set the Stage experience. Now an all day, full week camp, young actors will experience age-related (ages 9-11 and 12-15) break-out sessions with qualified instructors from 10am-noon. Break-out sessions may include: Auditions that Make a Difference; Acting 101/201; Basic Tap Dancing (tap shoes NOT required); Adding Vocal Value; General Theatre Terminology and Etiquette; Write and Record your own Commercial; and more. After a quick lunch break, students will hit the stage with Johnny Steiner from 12:30 to 3pm to work on the production portion of the camp. Participants will end each day with a bonus session to round out the entire theatre camp experience. Class will end at 4pm Monday through Thursday. Friday will end with a final performance of the mini-musical THE DRUM for friends and family at 5:30pm. Students are asked to pack a brown bag lunch each day. Camp fee is $150.

PCAA members receive a 10% discount and siblings enrolled in the same camp receive a 5% discount.

Brochures with full camp details and registration forms were recently distributed to elementary and middle school aged children through area schools. Additional brochures are available at the Palace Theatre Box Office (276 W. Center Street, Marion, Ohio).
