Marion County Park District June 2016 events

The Marion County Park District has scheduled multiple free programs in June. Unless otherwise noted, programs are at the Tallgrass Trail Nature Center, at 2093 Holland Road W., Marion.

  • June 1
    10 to 11 am: 17th Birthday Party for Cicadas.
  • June 2
    1 to 5 pm: Make leaf prints in the Tallgrass Trail Nature Center.
  • June 3
    10-11 am: Kiddos at the Park, for children age 3 to 5. Learn about frogs, make a craft, and take a short hike.
  • June 4
    8 am: Hot Tamale Bicycle Tour (starts at Waldo Community Park, $20 fee, kids 10 and under are free)
    2 to 5 p.m: Nature Fair, with games and crafts for children, nature hike for all ages.
  • June 6
    Noon to 5 pm: Nature Center open
    5 pm: Game Fish ID Class
  • June 7
    Noon to 4 pm: Nature Center open
    5 pm: Tracking program at Terradise Nature Preserve. Go west on Marion-Williamsport Road from SR 746 to the gravel parking lot.
  • June 8
    1 to 5 pm: Make a rock pet at the Tallgrass Trail Nature Center.
    5 pm: Tree identification class
  • June 9
    Noon to 6 pm: Nature Center open
    2 pm: Join Melissa Cassidy on a geocaching adventure
  • June 10
    10-11 am: Kiddos at the Park, for children age 3 to 5. Learn about birds
    Noon to 6 pm: Nature Center open
    9 pm: Night hike at Terradise Nature Preserve
  • June 11
    9 to 11 am: Take a hike on the Tallgrass Trail with a naturalist.
    11 am to 3 pm: Nature center open
  • June 13
    Noon to 6 pm: Nature Center open
    6pm: Invasive/Exotic Plant Species Program
  • June 14
    Noon to 6 pm: Make a butterfly craft at the Tallgrass Trail Nature Center
    6pm: Butterflies of Ohio program
  • June 15
    Noon to 6 pm: Nature center open
  • June 16
    Noon to 6 pm: Nature center open
  • June 17
    10-11 am: Kiddos at the Park, for children age 3 to 5. Learn about butterflies
    Noon to 7 pm: Nature Center open
    9 pm: Night hike at Tallgrass Trail
  • June 18
    9 to 11 am:  Leisurely bicycle ride on the Tallgrass Trail with a naturalist
    1:30 pm: Littles Cicada Mania, for children age 3 to 5
    3 pm: The Novice Naturalist
  • June 21
    1 pm:     Cicada program for adults
  • June 23
    2 to 5 pm: Nature Center open
    5 pm: Plants with Medicinal Value Program
  • June 24
    Noon to 5 pm: Make a beaded snake craft at the Tallgrass Trail Nature Center
    (No Kiddos at the Park this day)
  • June 25
    10am to 2pm: Farm Day at the Park, hosted by the Marion County Farm Bureau at the Tallgrass Trail. Learn about farm machinery while enjoying the Tallgrass Trail.
  • June 26
    2 pm: Join Kristi Harraman for a geocaching adventure
  • June 27
    Noon to 6 pm: Nature Center open
    6 pm: Birding 101, followed by a hike to look for birds
  • June 28
    10 am: Listen to us on WMRN 1490 AM
    Noon to 6 pm: Nature Center open
    1 to 4 pm: Pond Study, meet at the Nature Center
  • June 29
    10 to 11 am: Take a stroll on the Tallgrass Trail with a naturalist.
    Noon to 6 pm: Stop in the nature center to make an owl craft.
  • June 30
    Noon to 5 pm: Nature Center open
    6 pm: Outdoor living class at Terradise

All programs at the Tallgrass Trail except the pond study are wheelchair accessible.

Programs may be canceled due to weather. The park district will post a cancellation notice on the Marion County Park District and Tallgrass Trail Facebook pages.
