Popcorn Festival to award four titles this weekend

The 36th annual Miss Marion Popcorn Scholarship Program will be held this Saturday, August 6, 2016 at River Valley High School. Also crowned that night will be Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival. The events will run simultaneously and begin at 7:00 p.m.

Seven will vie for the coveted Miss Marion Popcorn Festival title. Each must have graduated from high school, be single and be no older than age 24 years as of August 6, 2016. The applicants will compete in talent, interview, formal wear, popcorn wear (an outfit that salutes popcorn) and an onstage question.

Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival is open to ladies single or married, ages 25 or older. The six contestants in this group will be judged in formal wear, popcorn wear, interview, and an onstage question.

Also set to take place Saturday at River Valley High School are the Miss Little Wee Pop and Miss Wee Pop pageants.  Miss Little Wee Pop is for girls 0 to 23 months.  Set to begin at 9:30 a.m., Little Wee Pops compete in formalwear and popcorn/theme wear.  Slated for a noon start, the Miss Wee Pop event is for girls aged 2 through 5 who will compete in formalwear, costume with a popcorn or Festival theme, and swimwear with a popcorn or Festival theme.

Miss Teen Pop, Miss Teen Popcorn and the new Mr. Popcorn events will take place at River Valley High School on Saturday, August 13, 2016.

All 2016 Marion Popcorn Festival pageant winners will receive prizes, be highlighted on the Festival’s main stage, take part in the Popcorn Parade, and represent the Marion Popcorn Festival at local and statewide events throughout the coming year.

The 2016 dates of the Marion Popcorn Festival are September 8, 9 and 10.   Main stage entertainment includes Thursday, September 8’s Bike Nite featuring Rock Brigade – The Def Leppard Experience at 8:30 p.m., country star Kellie Pickler on Friday, September 9, and heavy metal/rock band Skid Row set for Saturday, September 10. All headline performances begin at 8:30 p.m. are free of charge to Festival attendees.

Other events include Terry Lee Goffee, The “Ultimate” Johnny Cash Tribute, at the historic Marion Palace Theatre at 2:00 p.m. on September 8, the Popcorn Parade with over 300 units, a popcorn cooking contest, a fine art show, crafts, Popcorn 5000 5K run/walk, Popcorn 100 bike tour, Community Showcase stage, Marion’s Hometown Talent stage, Poppin’ Party stage, and much more.

  • Jennifer DeGood is the parent of 4 children, ages 19, 15 and 5 year old twins. Jennifer is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Dina Rudd her husband, Marvin, are the parents of Whitney, Chris, Ryan, Alex and stepchildren Danielle and Bryant. Dina is a registered nurse, currently pursuing her Master’s Degree.
  • Stacie Hines resides in Waldo with her husband, Scott, and her children, Courtnie, Caden, and Cloie. Stacie is a Delaware City Income Tax Account Specialist.
  • Kim Bradshaw, resides in Marion, Ohio with her husband Daniel and daughters Anna and Lydia. Kim is a Quality Analyst at Ohio Mutual Insurance Group.
  • Tiffany Shepherd resides in Marion, where she is currently enrolled at OSUM taking Sociology. Tiffany works at Meijers.
  • Michelle Maynard resides in Westerville, Ohio with her husband and daughter. Michelle is currently an officer in financial services.
