Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday, October 22, 2016. The crash occurred on State Route 309 near Holland Road in Marion Township at approximately 6:00pm.
A 1995 Chevy S10 was operated by Vernon Mount, 53, of LaRue, Ohio. Mount was traveling westbound on State Route 309 east of Holland Road. Investigators said that the vehicle drove left of center and off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle overcorrected, driving off the right side of the roadway and then overcorrected again before overturning and coming to final rest on State Route 309.
Mount was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Marion General Hospital by Marion Township EMS where he was pronounced deceased by Deputy Coroner Dr. Mark Davis.
Marion Township Fire and EMS, The Ohio Department of Transportation, and Ed’s Towing assisted on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
