The Ohio State University at Marion College Democrats, Let’s Read 20, and Marion Public Health are partnering on a new and gently used book drive through November 8, 2016 to benefit children of Marion.
The groups are seeking donations of books for children under age 5 who are participating in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program and the Help Me Grow home visiting program.
Books may be dropped off at building entrances at Ohio State Marion. Books that are appropriate for infants, toddlers, and preschools (especially board books) are appreciated.
Research shows that reading to a child starting at birth for 20 minutes every day can greatly impact their educational attainment, employment status, and health as they age.
Let’s Read 20 is a Marion County initiative to improve early literacy and is sponsored by United Way and the Marion Community Foundation. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and healthy foods to residents who meet certain eligibility. Help Me Grow is a home visiting program that provides education and support to families regarding infant/child development.
