The Marion County Park District is offering the following events in November 2016. All events are free unless otherwise listed.
- Friday, Nov. 4: Night Hike at the Tallgrass Trail. Meet at the nature center at 7:00pm (last night hike of 2016). Flashlights are optional, but should project red light. Appropriate for all ages.
Saturday, Nov 5: “Marion’s Mammoth” program at the Tallgrass Trail starting at 1:30pm. Honoring the 40th Anniversary of the Finding of Mammoth Remains in Marion. Guest Speaker Naturalist Joshua Dyer of the Crawford Park District . See the site where the 10,000 year old remains of Marion’s Mammoth were found in 1976. Available for view will be the leg bone from Marion’s Mammoth, courtesy of OSU Marion Campus. - Tuesday, Nov 8: Tallgrass Trail Nature Center open from 11a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Nov. 10, 4 pm: Terrific Turkey Program at Tallgrass Trail 4pm. Come learn about this amazing bird that almost became our national bird. Nature center will be open from noon to 3 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov 12, 9 am: Royal Family Kids Camp Run For Kids 5k event at Tallgrass Trail. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. This is a race to raise funds for foster children in Marion. Cost $25.
- Thursday, Nov 17, 4 pm: Tracking Wildlife Class at Terradise Nature Preserve.
- Saturday, Nov. 19, 9 am: Hike with the naturalist at the Tallgrass Trail. Come walk and enjoy nature.
- Tuesday, Nov 29, 10 am: Listen to naturalist James Anderson on WMRN 1490AM.
In additional, volunteers will be clearing the unpaved section of the Tallgrass Trail on Wednesdays and Saturdays, weather permitting, from 1 to 4 pm, except for Thanksgiving week. Volunteers meet at the Tallgrass Trail parking lot at 1 pm and caravan to the work location. Wear long sleeved shirt and long pants.
