Palace Theatre hosting mystery theatre and “Greater” movie this weekend

Patrons will have the opportunity to attend two separate events this weekend at the Palace.

In the May Pavilion, the Palace Cultural Arts Association along with Mary H. Hollaway and Bebout Family Funds at Marion Community Foundation will present an Agatha Christie stage play, “The Mousetrap,” a classic spine-tingling murder mystery.

Along with director Danielle Knight, “The Mousetrap” also stars Mike Cochran, Chris Wiley, Dee Ehrman, Kevin Orth, Hannah Schlichting, John Garnes and Tim Lutz as a group of strangers stranded in a boarding house during a snowstorm. They discover one of the houseguests is a murderer. The cast of odd characters is consumed with suspicions and race against time to determine who the killer is before he or she strikes again. Agatha Christie’s masterful whodunit weaves an intricate plot filled with nerve-rattling suspense, all leading up to an unforgettable final twist! Recommended for ages 12 years and up, general admission tickets are $16. “The Mousetrap” will be performed in the May Pavilion on Friday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 6 at 2 p.m. At press-time, tickets are available for all shows; however, Sunday’s show is close to sold out. Seating is limited; therefore, patrons are encouraged to order tickets in advance. Tickets may be purchased at the Palace box office located at 276 West Center Street, Downtown Marion, by phone (740) 383-2101 or online www.marionpalace.org.

In the main theatre, the biopic “Greater” will be shown on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“Greater” recounts the true story of Arkansas Razorbacks walk-on offensive lineman Brandon Burlsworth (Christopher Severino). Brandon had always dreamed of playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks but was considered too short and too fat to play Division I. Undeterred, Brandon displayed gritty determination and defied the odds to make the Razorbacks’ team in 1994. An extremely devoted Christian, Brandon never cursed or drank. He was genuinely humble and low-key. He worked harder than anybody, on and off the field, becoming the first Razorback to earn a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree while still playing. The overly-fat kid who was once an embarrassment to his teammates and an annoyance to his coaches, ended up becoming the most respected player in the history of the program, changing the lives of all he touched. Eleven days after being drafted into the NFL, Brandon was tragically killed in a car accident, crushing all who knew him. Brandon’s story is more than mere football. It is a story of hope and inspiration. “Greater” is rated PG for thematic elements, some language and smoking and runs 130 minutes. Show times are as follows: Friday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Movie admission prices are $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2016-2017 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card.

Concessions are available during both events and are available for purchase including candy bars for $1 and 20 oz. Pepsi products, popcorn and boxed theatre candy for $2 each.
