YMCA gearing up for youth, adult basketball leagues

The Marion Family YMCA will begin an adult winter basketball league beginning on January 14, 2017. Adult League basketball is for men 18 and older. Each participant must pay $45 for members and $60 for non-members and each team must pay a $40 team registration fee.

Teams and rosters are formed by the team captain and/or coach. A captains meeting is scheduled for December 30th at 6:00pm. A team captain of representative of the team must be present in order to participate in the league.

All games will be played on Saturday evenings beginning at 5:00pm. The league will consist of 6 regular season games followed by a two weekend tournament for a total of 8 weeks of basketball.

Members and Non-Members can sign up through January 2, 2017. Register at the YMCA at 645 Barks Road East, online at www.marionymca.com, or call 740-725-9622 (payment must be made at time of registration).

Youth basketball registration is currently underway at the Marion Family YMCA. The program focuses on teaching the athletes basic skills, teamwork & sportsmanship. In YMCA Sports, everybody plays equal playing time and has the opportunity to play different positions. Practice will be held once a week at each team coach’s discretion, with games being played on Saturday mornings.

The session lasts from January 7 to February 25, 2017, and is open for ages 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12. All of the games will be played on Saturday mornings beginning January 21, 2017. The 1st week (January 7) will be practice only.

Volunteer coaches are needed.

The fee is $35 for members and $60 program participants. The price includes a reversible basketball jersey, and awards. A coaches meeting will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 6:00 PM.

Registration deadline is December 31, 2016. There will be a $10 late fee for anyone registering after this date.

Scholarships are available. Bring your tax return to the Marion Family YMCA Service Center at the time of registration for youth soccer for immediate approval. Families with annual income of $35,000 or less may qualify for a $20 reduction fee.
