Local Modern Woodmen region to receive Fraternal Region Builder Award

Lori SeckelModern Woodmen of America’s Ohio Central Region, led by Regional Director Lori D. Seckel, will receive the organization’s 2016 Fraternal Region Builder Award. This national award is presented to one growing Modern Woodmen region each year based on the fraternal impact made on local communities.

Seckel, whose regional office is based in Marion, Ohio, will accept the award at a banquet on April 6, 5 p.m., at Marion Palace Theater, 276 West Center Street, Marion.

“The members and financial representatives in the Seckel Region are truly dedicated to making an impact,” said Jill Lain Weaver, Modern Woodmen’s fraternal director, who will present the award at the ceremony. “They’ve done a great job of demonstrating Modern Woodmen’s mission to improve quality of life.”

Modern Woodmen and its representatives provide both financial services and fraternal member benefits, including social, educational and volunteer programs, to residents in central Ohio.

In 2016, local communities received more than $996,000 through Modern Woodmen and its members’ fraternal efforts, an increase of 211 percent from 2015. The contribution includes $835,355 raised locally by Modern Woodmen chapters and youth service clubs partnering with community groups in the area. Modern Woodmen’s home office matched up to $2,500 annually for each chapter and $500 for each youth club.

Representatives in the region also donated 118 free youth educational programs to area schools and youth organizations last year, educating 3,423 local children about financial literacy, civics and citizenship, exercise and nutrition, and other topics.

Members from the Ohio Central Region’s 41 chapters, nine Summit chapters (for members age 55 and over) and 10 youth service clubs dedicated a total of 6,407 volunteer hours to community projects in 2016. Members like these help support local causes in many ways, including donating to local food banks, helping families and individuals in need, and beautifying local parks.

Modern Woodmen serves members for life. The tax-exempt fraternal benefit society offers life insurance, annuity and investment* products to improve the quality of life of its members, their families and their communities. In turn, members make an impact through social, educational and volunteer activities. In 2016, Modern Woodmen provided $21.7 million and 562,388 member volunteer hours for fraternal activities and programs nationwide.
