Applications being accepted for Marion Works summer youth employment program

Marion County Job & Family Services (MCJFS) has announced the kick-off of the 2018 Marion Works Summer Youth Employment Program.

The program begins June 4, 2018 starting with Financial Literacy and Soft Skills training. Youth will then be assigned to a paid work assignment. Work assignments will continue through August 3rd, 2018. Program length may change based on the availability of funding.

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Marion Works Summer Youth Employment Program (MWSYEP) enables low income TANF-eligible Marion County youth, age 14-17, to gain valuable work experience while earning a paycheck to help meet basic needs. Youth may work part time up to 25 hours a week through this program. The MWSYEP offers the opportunity for youth to develop a hands-on work experience and get a reference from an employer.

MCJFS will be partnering with Marion Goodwill to facilitate the program which includes job readiness training and Marion Matters will provide the Financial Literacy training. Participants will be assigned to a variety of private, not-for-profit, and public employers around the county. Youth will also have job coaches to help them address and overcome barriers that may be preventing them from being successful at work.

Youth must meet the following category (all participants must be low income, please visit the websites listed below for the guidelines):

  • Youth age 14-17, as long as the youth is in school.
