Charles Caserta, 88, of Marion

Charles Caserta, 88, of Marion, passed away peacefully at Marion General Hospital on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 with his loving wife at his side.  One of nine children, Charlie was born in Marion, ohio on September 21, 1921 to the late Bartolo and Antonia (Maniaci) Caserta.

Charlie lived all his life in Marion and graduated from St. Mary High School.  A WWII veteran, he served in the Army in Panama and Okinawa as a radio operator.  On June 30, 1951, he married his wife Josephine "Jo" (Manzo) Caserta, and she survives.

Until his retirement in 1992, he and his wife owned and operated Storad Tape and Label Company.

Charlie was a lifetime member of St. Mary Church.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW and the Elks Lodge #32.  He was an avid football and baseball fan.  One of his fondest memories was a trip to Italy he and his wife took to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by brothers, Anthony of Columbus, and Chris of Tennessee; one sister, Rosemary Stidham of Kentucky; sisters-in-law, Patty Caserta and Rosaline Doria, both of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.  He was especially close to his nephew, Jim (Cheryl) Doria of Canton and nieces, Ann Hord of Marion and Rita (Tim) Kindler of Rochester, New York, and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Puglisi, Josephine Elliot, and Eleanor Sabbach; brothers, Bert and James.

Friends may call from 5 – 8 p.m. at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors on Friday, April 23, 2010 with parish prayers at 5:00 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. in St. Mary Church on Saturday, April 24, 2010 with Fr. Michael Nimocks celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.gunderhallandfolk.com.
