Laura “Jane” Gilbert died peacefully on April 14, 2010 at Community Healthcare Center, where she had made her home since November.
Born July 29, 1924 to Herbert and Nita Wolfe, Jane had lived in Marion and was a graduate of Harding High School.
A bookkeeper, her employment included Gilbert Printing, Home Federal Savings & Loan, and McDaniel Motor. After her retirement, Jane volunteered at Mark Street and Fairpark schools and worked in the office at Goodwill.
A lifelong member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Jane particularly enjoyed the homebound ministries of Rev. Colleen Ogle, Rev. Mark Coale, and Jeanne & Tom Howison. Jane also became friends with Ann Hill through an Epworth Bible study and their friendship continued for nearly 50 years.
Jane loved sports, decorating and reading. She continued to read the writings of Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra, and enjoyed leading book study groups in spiritual growth.
Jane is survived by her children and their spouses: Rick & Sharon Gilbert, Mike & Cynthia Gilbert, and Mary Beth & Mark Vanderhoof. Her grandchildren Michael Vanderhoof (fiancée Heather Brown) of Columbus and Stefanie Gilbert (partner Julie Beeney) of Mystic CT also survive. Her grandson Christopher Richard Gilbert died in 1982, just five days prior to her father’s death. Her brother Richard (Marlene) Wolfe lives in Bucyrus.
A memorial service for Laura “Jane” Gilbert will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church, 249 East Center Street, Marion, OH on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Colleen Ogle officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in Marion Cemetery.
