Robert E. Malone, 73, Marion, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 29, 2010.
Bob was born on March 27, 1937 to John and Ella (Large) Malone, who preceded him in death, as did a sister, Patricia.
He married Louise Bushatz in 1961 and she survives.
He is survived by 3 children, Michael (Trudi) Malone, Molly (Bob) Smith, and Mary Malone, all of Marion; 6 grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Kyle, Dezarae, Brandon, and Courtney. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Larry Malone and John R (Paulette) Malone of Marion, and Ron Malone of Worthington; 2 sisters, Sandra Malone of Reynoldsburg and Ginger Kauble of Marion; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob attended Marion Harding High School, Marion Business College, and served in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command.
He was a 3rd Ward Councilman, General Chairman of the International Association of Machinists, and served as Service Director for the City of Marion from 1981 to 1988. He was on the Board of Governors for Marion General Hospital, a member of the Advisory Board for the Tri-Rivers Joint Vocational School, served as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Marion County, was a Staff Representative for the Fraternal Order of Police, and 2nd Vice President of the Marion AFL-CIO. He also served as a delegate to numerous Democratic National Conventions.
Bob was involved in the labor movement his entire life. He had a great passion for politics, history, genealogy, and family. He is deeply loved as the family patriarch and will be greatly missed by many friends and family.
Family will receive friends at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors on Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 2 – 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Colleen Ogle officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the Knights of Columbus in Marion.
