Anthony "Tony" B. Caserta, 91, Westerville, and formerly of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Westerville. Tony was born on April 7, 1919 in Marion, to the late Bartolo and Antonia (Manaci) Caserta.
Tony served in the Navy during WWII as a ships cook on PT Boats and was later honorably discharged on the 11th of November of 1945. He was a baker by trade either working for himself or with various institutions to include, Caserta Pastry Shop, baking at Ohio State University, Tremont Goodie Shop and finally retiring from the Kroger Company. Tony was of catholic faith and was well known for his harmonica playing.
He is survived by his children, Larry (Tuey) Caserta, Mathew (Melinda) Caserta, Steve (Karen) Caserta, Thomas (Sherry) Caserta, Charlene (Jerry) Mooney all of Columbus, and Cheryl (Mitch) Stillberger of Zanesville; A brother, Chris Caserta of Tennessee; A sister, Rosemary Stidham of Kentucky; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. Preceding Tony in death was his wife, Martha (Fabian) Caserta, 8/13/2000; brothers, Charles, Bert and James; sisters, Jean Puglisi, Josephine Elliot, and Eleanor Sabbach.
Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Parish prayers will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in St. Mary Church, Marion, with Father Michael Nimocks Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council. Memorials are preferred to St. Mary Church, Marion.
