Mae (Bowen) Hughes, 85, of Marion, Ohio went peacefully to join her loving husband and be in the joyful presence of her Lord, Jesus Christ, with whom she has served for 68 years, on May 7, 2010.
Mae was born in Louisa, Kentucky to the late Hampton and Jenny (Maynard) Bowen on June 14, 1924.
The oldest daughter of 10 children, 7 of which are deceased. (2 living) Ed Bowen of Inez, Kentucky and Bill Bowen of Marion, Ohio.
Mae’s husband Ervin Hughes left ahead of Mae to be with the lord on October 20, 1991. They were married on July 23, 1943 and celebrated 48 years of marriage together.
She is survived by 4 daughters: Carolyn Sue (Jim) Parish of Marion, Pauline (Bill) Burden of Marion, Dianna (Marlin) Chappell of Marion, Kathy (Ronnie) Powell of Marion with whom she had made her home with this past year. 1 daughter-in-law Diana Hughes of Caledonia, Ohio. She was a wonderful Grandmother to the following 12 grandchildren: Darrell, Kimberly, Lori, Wayne, Kelli, Angie, Jeanie, Ronnie, Wesley, Andy, Toby, and Brandi. 22 Great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
1 son deceased Kim Hughes February 6, 2010, of Caledonia, Ohio. Also, two brothers, and 3 sisters deceased.
She moved to Marion from Louisa in 1951. Having worked at the Hotel Harding, Corey Rubber, and was a nurse aide for over 20 years at Morning View Care Center.
Mae loved her flowers and root digging with her daughters. A foot-long Coney with a root beer float. She loved dancing, singing and making her family laugh at all the wonderful things she did. She was a unique and lovely woman that will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
Friends may call on Monday, May 10, 2010 from 4-8 PM at Boyd-Born Funeral Home. A funeral will take place Tuesday, May 11 at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Pastors David Aiken and Grover Caudill will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Darrell Collins, Dave Conner, Ronnie Powell, Wesley Powell, Andy Hughes, and Toby Hughes. Burial will take place at Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge.
