Merle Gordon Layne, 75, of Prospect, Ohio went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2010 at home. He was born in Lawrence County, Ohio to Millard and Myrtie (Depriest) Layne on November 14, 1934. He is survived by Reba (Friend) Layne, who he married July 23, 1957.
Merle was a graduate of Rock Hill High School of Pedro, Ohio in 1953. He retired in 1999 from Clark Metal and was an employee of Tecumseh Products for 18 years before they closed. He was a member of 1st Marion Free Will Baptist Church, Marion, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Markel, and Margaret Milem.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Layne of Prospect, Ohio; son, Merle Brenton (Jennifer) Layne of Marion, Ohio; grandsons, Brent, Kenneth, and Luke Layne; great grandson, Parker Layne; and a future great grandson.
Calling hours will be held Monday, May 24, 2010 from 5-8 PM at Boyd-Born Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 25 at 10:30 AM at First Free Will Baptist Church; 1449 Crissinger Road. Pastors Roger Fletcher and Paul Staton will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge.
