Raymond Andrew Dunn, of Marion, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 12:15 a.m. at Marion General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born on August 8, 1931 in Marion, Ohio to the late Edward and Laura (Simmons) Dunn.
A graduate of Mt. Gilead High School; he enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1956 after serving aboard the USS Kennedy.
He worked as an Engineer for the Erie Lackawana/Conrail Railroad until retiring in 1993.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Ann Krause and brother Edward M. Dunn.
He married Grace (Giallombardo) Dunn on November 27, 1954, who survives.
He is also survived by his sister Mary Margaret Coffey of Columbus, sister-in-law Mary Dunn of Marion and twin daughters Rita (Rick) Vonderheide of Toledo and Rene` (Harold) Hord of Marion, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his cat Kati.
Ray spent much of his free time doing what he loved the best – golfing, and enjoyed having the opportunity to go to the Master’s one year with his brother Ed and was also very proud of his hole-in-one.
He was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus #671, member of the Elk’s Lodge No. 32 and VFW.
Contributions can be made in his name to the Marion County United Veteran’s Council or the Humane Society.
Friends may call Monday, May 31, 5-8 p.m. at Gunder Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, 347 W. Center St., Marion, OH (prayer service at 5 p.m.). Funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. (visitation one hour prior to Mass) at St. Mary Church, Marion, OH, with Father Michael Nimocks Celebrant. Internment following Mass at St. Mary Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Marion County United Veteran’s Council.
