On October 3, 1943, in Marion, she married Richard L. Slack, who preceded her in death in 2005.

After high school, she earned a two-year teaching certificate from Capital University, and took courses from Bowling Green University and Toledo University, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the Ohio State University in 1967.

Elizabeth lovingly taught first graders for 30 years in the Marion City School system, and many times described how exciting it was to see children’s faces light up when they realized they could read!

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church for many years, where she took an active role in the Sunday School, the Youth Fellowship (as a member and later as an adult advisor) and United Methodist Women.  A lifelong Bible student, she completed the Disciple Bible Study.

She is survived by two sons: R. Thomas (Carolyn) Slack, Bexley, Ohio, and W. David (Cheryl) Slack, Marion; four grandchildren: Jonathan (Angela) Slack, Elizabeth Slack, Aimee (Tim) Irwin, and Cora Slack; and one great-grandson, Wyatt Slack.

She was preceded in death by three brothers:  Arthur, Richard, and Harold; and two sisters:  Kathryn and Mildred.

As the last surviving member of her generation, her stories and recollections connected her many nieces and nephews to their parents and other relatives.

The Slack family will greet friends from 4 -7 p.m. on Monday, June, 21, 2010, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Be still, my soul:  the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul:  your best, your heavenly friend
through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
