Sherman Roger “Pops” England, 68, passed away Tuesday evening, March 1, 2011 at his residence.
He was born September 16, 1942 in McDowell, Kentucky to Clarence and Myredia (Bently) England.
Roger was a United States Navy Veteran. He was an electrician and was well known as the owner of England’s TV & Video. He was the founder of Kids for Christ, and had become “dad” to many children in the community. He loved to golf, fish, and vacation. He will be missed by his buddies at Green Acres Golf course, his fishin’ buddy, Roy Woods, and his former wife and best friend, Maggie Holt.
Roger is survived by three daughters, Teresa (Keith) Isner of Mt. Sterling, Lisa (Rick) England-Widas of Marion, and Michelle Yager of LaRue; six grandchildren, Maggie Isner, Kaleb England, Kasey England-Widas, Emma England-Widas, Aric Overly, and Alysia Yager; three brothers, Ronnie (Jackie) Armstrong of Marion, Rodney (Mary) Armstrong of LaRue, and Jeff (Tina) England of North Carolina; seven sisters, Shirley Mitchell of Columbus, Jennifer (John) McCrary of LaRue, Anne (Roy Ely) Kumer, Cindy (John) Milka, Brenda (Brian) Charron, Jacqueline (Leonard) Meczkowski, and Pam (Tom) Urick all of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence England and Myredia Armstrong; and step-father, David Armstrong.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 12 Noon at Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Annette Johnson will officiate the service, and military rites will be performed by Marion Area Veteran’s Council. Friends and loved ones may visit with the family Saturday from 10 AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
