Vito “Willie” LiVigne, 90, of Delaware

Vito “Willie” LiVigne, age 90 of Delaware formerly of Brooklyn, New York died Saturday morning, March 5, 2011 at Grady Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born in Brooklyn New York on January 25, 1921 to the late Francesco and Maria (Bellafiore) LiVigne. A US Army veteran of WW II, he had worked as an auto mechanic, retiring in 1984.

Vito met the former Antonina “Lena” Oliveri at a fruit stand in Brooklyn; she would become his wife of 67 years. They moved to Delaware in 1996 to be near their daughter, Marie Larsen. He was broken hearted when Lena passed away on July 6, 2009.

A member of St. Mary Church, he was a simple man who loved entertaining and enjoying the company of friends and family. He possessed a jovial and at times a spunky demeanor. Always generous he treasured time spent with his grandchildren and will be remembered for his friendly nature.

He is survived by daughters: Marie (Don) Larsen of Delaware, Sara (Chico) Fabel of White Plains, NY, 5 Grandchildren, 14 Great-grandchildren, 3 Step-grandchildren, 6 Step-Great-grandchildren, 2 Great-great-grandchildren, and brother: Jimmy LiVigne, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters: Josephine Bianco, Maria Lodoato, Vitina LiVigne, and brothers Phillip and Frank.

Friends may call Tuesday 2:30-4:30 & 6-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where prayer services will be held Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Additional services will be held Thursday and Friday in Brooklyn, New York, with burial in St. Charles Cemetery on Long Island.
