Curtis Carroll “Jack” Kemmer, age 87, of Cardington, died Saturday evening, April 9, 2011, at the Kingston Residence of Marion.
On August 30, 1927, Jack was born in Knox County, Ohio, the son of the late Raymond and Olive (Vannatta) Kemmer.
With unreserved love for his country, Jack was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. He fought in the last battle of the war at Okinawa and was awarded a bronze star for his honorable service.
On February 11, 1949, Jack married the love of his life and woman he always held hands with, Mary Jane Nauman, at the Chester Baptist Church. They shared over 62 wonderful years together.
For 30 years, Jack was employed by PPG Industries as a kiln operator. He then worked for Carter Lumber for 9 years. Jack spent most of his life working his 100 acre farm, growing crops, and raising sheep and cattle.
Jack was a longtime member of the Chester Baptist Church.
Above all, Jack was a family man. He worked hard to provide for his family and when he wasn’t working, he cherished spending time with them. Although Jack had a stern look to him, he had a soft heart for those he loved and cared about.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Jane; his son, Dennis (Carolyn) Kemmer of Marion; two daughters: Becky (Raymond) Erickson of Woodstock, GA, Vicki (Kent) Dyer of Concord, NC; three grandsons: Nathan Erickson, Adam Dyer, and Jonathan Dyer; a great-granddaughter, Caleigh Grace; a great-grandson, Andrew Curtis; and a sister, Wanda Inspucker of FL.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by three brothers: Roger, Charles “Red”, and Jim Kemmer; and two sisters, Mary Jane Satterfield and Margaret Kemmer.
The Kemmer family will receive friends from 1 – 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mt. Gilead. Services honoring his life will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Julie Stevens officiating with his three grandsons participating. Burial with military honors provided by the AmVets Post #87 and VFW Post #8054 will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
