Robert L. Packer, 87, of Marion passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at Suncoast Hospice House Woodside & Villas in Pinellas Park, Florida.
Robert was born August 21, 1923 in Marion to the late George E. and Edna M. (Hodge) Packer, Sr. He was married to Virginia M. Primmer April 23, 1945 in Marion.
Robert served 9 years in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania during WWII and the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic for Ford, Lincoln, Mercury before retiring from Eaton Corp. as a Saftey Service Director. After retiring he enjoyed working at Whetstone Golf Course for many years. He had a love for gardening and took great pride in his yard. He was a member of Richland Road Church of Christ, and American Legion Post 162.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Paulette (Dan) Christman of Marion; son, Robert L. (Theresa) Packer of Delphi, TN; grandchildren, Bobby and Amy Christman, Shannin (Rick Lindsey) Christman; great grandchildren, Cody, Aubree, and Emma Christman all of Marion; brother, Duane (Fannie) Packer of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister, Beverly (Joe) Rowell of Hortense, Georgia; and sister-in-law, Virginia Packer of LeHigh Acres, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Packer; grandson, Shawn Cochran; and brothers, George, Ed, and Don Packer.
Interment with Military Rights will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at 1 PM at Marion Cemetery.
