Dorothy M. Benson age 85 of Marion, Ohio passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 7:45 a.m. in the Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Marion on August 6, 1925 to the late Homer L. and Gladice Leona (Kirby) Hale.
Dorthy married Harold C. Benson on August 15, 1948 in Prospect, Ohio and he preceded her in death on September 12, 2004 in Marion.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Prospect, the Railroad Lodge, and acted as the head cook for the Marion Senior Citizens for several years. Dorothy retired as a cook for the Marion City School System where she worked at the Edison Jr. High School for many years.
Surviving are a son; Clifford "Chip" (Faye) Benson of Amanda, Ohio, 4 grandchildren; Clorisa & Heather Clinard both of Bucyrus, Ohio, Chad Benson of Delaware, Ohio, and Brian Benson of Amanda, Ohio. Dorothy was preceded in death along with her parents and husband by a daughter; Cora Clinard, and a sister;. Mary Alice Fogle.
Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Monday, May 16, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with burial to follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. Pastor Rahel Hahn will conduct the service.
Contributions in Dorothy's name may be given to the American Cancer Society.
