Geraldine D. “Gerry” Sharrock, 97, of Mt. Gilead

Our precious mom, Geraldine D. “Gerry” Sharrock, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday evening, May 23, 2011.

For most of her life, she lived in Mount Gilead, and in recent years she resided at Olentangy Woods in Galion.

On March 27, 1914, Gerry was born in Green Camp, Ohio, one of six children of the late Lewis and Clara (Porter) Thompson.  She graduated from Iberia High School in the Class of 1932.

Shortly after graduating, Gerry married the love of her life, Melvin L. “Barney” Sharrock, on April 29, 1933, in Newport, Kentucky.  Together they shared over forty-eight wonderful years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on February 4, 1982.

A loving homemaker, Mom was so happy taking excellent care of her family and preparing special recipes.  And no matter the circumstances, she was never too busy to help Dad in his feed and grain business, Sharrock Elevators.

A woman of deep faith, Mom was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, where she used her special music talent by playing the organ for around four decades.  Even at 97 years young, she found great delight in playing beloved hymns on her organ for worship and the enjoyment of others and herself on her electronic organ.

With a love “for the beauty of God’s creation,” Mom loved tending to her fabulous flower garden every year. Mom set a wonderful example of Christian values for us all our lives and we are so thankful for her meek and gentle spirit. For Mom, “every day was an exciting adventure” and she will forever be missed.

Mom will be dearly missed by her son, Timothy (Connie) Sharrock of Mount Gilead; her daughter, Maurita (Dale) Force of Ontario; eight grandchildren: Jerry D. Force, Karen Force Gauthier, Sharla (Marc) Hedrick, Ron Jackson, Sherri Jackson, Trent Sharrock, Ben (Bethany) Sharrock, and Timberlee (Mitchell) Madeker; eight great-grandchildren: Joshua Gauthier, Anthony and Bethany Force, Brandyn Van Dyke, Mya Sharrock, Jacob and Clara Hedrick, and Adria Sharrock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, She was preceded in death by her brother, David Thompson; and four sisters: Opal Warwick, Hazel Bailey, Berdine Farlee, and Ruby Thompson.

The Sharrock family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating her life will follow immediately at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Russell Downs officiating. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.

Rather than flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
