Pauline R. James, 93, of Chesterville

Pauline R. James, age 93, a lifelong resident of Chesterville, died Tuesday evening, May 10, 2011, at the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Facility following a five month illness.

On September 9, 1917, Pauline was born on the family farm in Chesterville, the daughter of the late James and Marie (Shipman) Buchanan.  She graduated from Chesterville High School in the Class of 1935.

Shortly following graduation, Pauline married her loving husband, Claude S. James on May 2, 1936, and soon thereafter they took over the operation of her family’s farm.  They worked together on the farm, helping each other with the responsibilities of their dairy cattle, and there wasn’t anything on the farm that Pauline wasn’t able to do.  Pauline and Claude were married for over fifty one years, when he preceded her in death on June 5, 1987.

In 1978, Pauline chose to dedicate herself to the Selover Public Library in Chesterville, where she served as their librarian for twenty five years.  Also, she was a member of the Chesterville United Methodist Church.

Quite the “story teller,” Pauline had an amazing memory and could recount story after story about most of her life.  She loved to talk with and tell her stories to her family and friends, and she often spent most of her day on the phone.

Very independent and set in her ways, Pauline liked her usual routine on the farm and she fought to be able to keep up her routine as long as she could.

She will be missed by her nephew, Keith Buchanan of Mount Gilead; nieces-in-law: Linda and Rosemary Buchanan, both of Mansfield; two sisters-in-law: Eileen Pastorik and Betty James; her caregivers: Nancy Roach and Ilena Sturgeon; and many other loving family members.

Including her husband and parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her brother, Dwight Buchanan; and five nephews: Donald, Max, Larry, Gary and David Buchanan;

Pauline’s friends and family are welcome from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services honoring her life will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeannie Winters and Rev. Joe Sopher officiating.  Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Rather than flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Selover Public Library, P. O. Box 25, Chesterville, Ohio 43317.

Pauline’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to her caregivers, Nancy and Ilena, for their special care and dedication to Pauline.  They helped to make sure Pauline was able to make it to her Thursday hair appointment and grocery shopping trip to Kroger’s, no matter the circumstances, as well as anything else Pauline had her mind set on doing.
