Betty J. Long, age 79, of Marion, passed away June 27, 2011, at Partners of Marion. Betty was born February 9, 1932, in Marion, to the late Delbert and Viola (Baker) Saunders.
She married Stanley E. Long on June 2, 1951, and he preceded her in death January 6, 2000.
Betty retired from Quaker Oats Company after 20 years and also volunteered for the Marion County Dog Pound until Stanley retired.
She will be missed by her three daughters, Melody (Steven) Speakman of Marion, Laura (David) Starcher of Caledonia, Kimberly Welch of Marion, five grandchildren, Steven (Jill) Speakman, Scott (Stacey) Speakman, Amy Speakman Ray, Crystal Crissinger, Shawn (Krystal) Crissinger, twelve great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a great family friend, Ryan Thompson, who helped care for her.
Betty was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Michael Welch, her three sisters, Genny Rivers, Gloria Timmions, Patty Saunders, one brother, Roger Saunders, and one brother-in-law, Russell Rivers.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 4 to 8 PM at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors where funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2011, at 1:30 PM with Rev. Russell Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
