Dorothy Louise Deskins, age 79, of Marion, died peacefully early Thursday morning, June 23, 2011, at Kingston Residence following a three year battle with cancer.
On June 4, 1932, Dorothy was born in Marion, Ohio, one of four children of the late Brenaldo “B.C.” and Gladys (Seiter) Williams. She graduated from Pleasant High School in the Class of 1950.
Just a few weeks following graduation, Dorothy married the love of her life, Charles M. Deskins, on June 24, 1950. They had been introduced to each other through her sister Norma’s husband. Together they shared over 49 wonderful years of marriage. She has dearly missed him since he preceded her in death on October 29, 1999.
A loving homemaker, Dorothy took pride in caring for her husband and children. She would also help her husband at his business, the 3rd Base Drive Thru, whenever he needed anything.
Dorothy was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Pleasant Homemakers Club.
With a love for the ocean, Dorothy and Charles were proud to be “Snowbirds” and they enjoyed wintering in Pine Island, Florida, for many years. She also loved to go looking for shells along the beach, a term everyone in their family knows as “shelling”.
An avid bingo fan, Dorothy loved any opportunity to play bingo, and she especially enjoying playing it with her friends at Kingston.
“Always cheerful and always positive”, Dorothy was a ray of sunshine to anyone who knew her. And no matter how sick she was or how bad she felt, she would still always say “I’m fine” and “I’m going to get better”.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by her three children: Connie Phillips, Michael Deskins, and Janet (Tim) Gullett, all of Marion; two grandchildren: Jessica Phillips and Taylor Gullett; a sister, Ruth Ann (John) Peacock; a brother, Dwain (Sandy) Williams, both of Marion; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Including her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Hayman.
The Deskins family will greet friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will also be held there on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Keith Irey officiating. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Trinity Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
