Mary Edith Doster Cline, 94, of Marion

Our mother, Mary Edith Doster Cline passed away on Friday June 17, 2011 at Heartland of Marion.

She was born near Harveysburg, Ohio on March 18, 1917 to the late Herbert Taylor and Neva Young Doster.

She graduated from Harveysburg High School as Valedictorian in 1934 and later from Office Training School in Columbus, Ohio.

Mary met our father, Harry J. Cline at the A.I.U. Building (now the LeVeque Tower) where they both worked. On June 3, 1944 they were married. They celebrated their 40th anniversary before Harry's death on September 18, 1984.

She retired in 1981 from General Telephone Company of Ohio (now Verizon) after working as an executive secretary for over 25 years.

Mary was a member of Trinty Baptist Church for 60 years and attended the Radar and later the United Sunday School classes, was a member of Victoria Christensen Circle, Coffee and Crumbs Bible Study, and formerly taught Sunday School for 13 years. She had memberships in Marion Chapter of Professional Secretaries, International, a life member of Independent Telephone Pioneer Assn., Creator's Guild, the Red Hat Society, and the Twig III of Marion General Hospital.

Many things interested her besides spending time with her family and traveling extensively in her lifetime. She was interested in cemetery research, a covered bridge enthusiast, auctions, needlework, glass collecting, flower gardening, and the many crafts she learned while in Creator's Guild. In 2002/2003 with the help of her family, she traveled around Ohio to all 88 counties and took pictures of the Bicentennial barns.

She is survived by two daughters; Jeri (Steven) Ward of Marion, and Marty (Dave) Hord of Fort Wayne, IN; favorite grandchildren; Stephanie Ward-Hickey (Daniel), and David R. Hord; great-grandchildren; Laura, Erin and Ben Hickey, plus nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and James Doster, and had a close relationship with her sisters-in-law who survive.

The funeral service for Mary will be Wednesday June 22, 2011 at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. Officiating the service will be Dr. Richard Farmer. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
