Mary Jean Griggs – Smith , age 85 formerly of Caledonia passed away Wednesday morning June 15th, at White Oak Manor Nursing Facility in Waxhall, NC.
She was born in Marion County on November 8th, 1925 as the daughter of the late Clarence L. & Eva L. (Leadman) Sherman.
Eva was a graduate of Kirkpatrick High School and was trained as a book keeper. She was a member of the Caledonia Church of Christ and the Pythian Sisters of Caledonia. Mary Jean was married to William E. Griggs Sr. He preceded her in death in February 1976.
She is survived by her daughter Eva (Bobbie) Griggs – McCutchen of Indian Land, SC. Her grandchildren: Tyson Griggs of Bucyrus, Chana Renee Campbell of Bucyrus, Jessica N. Griggs of Ashland, Julie McCutchen of Dublin, Joel McCutchen of Charlotte, NC, Carla Jean Bennett of Bucyrus and four Great Grand Children. She also leaves behind her sisters; Mrs June martin of Mt. Olive IL, and Mrs. Marguerite Jacobs of Maumee.
She was preceded in death by her son William Griggs II , her daughter Bonita Jean Brady and her brother Kenneth Sherman.
A Memorial Service for Mary Jean will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday July 10th at the Timson Allen & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia with Donald Kelley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will receive them after 1:00 on Sunday afternoon.
