Shirley J. Shroyer, 71, of Marion, passed away Friday June 24, 2011 after an extended illness.
Shirley was born in New York on May 11, 1940 to the late George and Olive (Foltz) Cooper.
She was also preceded in death by her great- granddaughter Rhyley Renne Steffey, and siblings; Florence Springstead, Faith Dyer, Dortha Baker, Harold Cooper, Richard Cooper, Gilbert Cooper, Norman Cooper and Robert Cooper.
Shirley met her husband Duane, who survives, at a young age. They eventually married and shared 53 years together as best friends.
She also left three daughters to cherish her memory; Karen (Joe) Waterer, Palmer, Alaska, Terry (Lenny) Kerney, Boonville, New York and Deanna (John) Steffey of Marion, Ohio. Along with ten grandchildren; Derek Waterer, Palmer, Alaska, Nikki (Rodney) Bettis, Wasilla, Alaska, Kenny Waterer, Topeka, Kansas, Joey (Gabby) Waterer, Palmer, Alaska, Sean (Abby) Kerney, St. Petersburg, Florida, Shane Kerney, Boonville, New York, Kali (Scott) Poynter, Belle Center, Ohio, Juanita Steffey, Jonathan Steffey and Jennifer Steffey, all Marion, Ohio and six great-grandchildren; Faythe and Lealand Bettis, Wasilla, Alaska, Jaydon and Jaxon Waterer, Topeka, Kansas, Destini Waterer, Palmer, Alaska and Dalton Steffey, Marion, Ohio. She is also survived by two sisters; Thelma Barnhardt of New York and Gloria Stark of Ohio, one brother, Manford Martin Cooper, Larue, Ohio, one adopted daughter, Joy Scott of Marion, Ohio, several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Shirley loved photography, gardening, travel and crafting. She belonged to the Marion Camera Club for a time and sold her crafts at many different craft shows around Ohio. Her favorite subjects for photographs were always her grandchildren followed by local landscape and nature during her travels. Her photos had won awards and brought a great deal of joy to her and others. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
There will only be calling hours for Shirley on Wednesday June 29, 2011 at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. A private inturnment will be observed at a later date.
