Clara Ellen Laucher, 90, of Marion

Clara Ellen Laucher, age 90, of Marion, died early Sunday morning, July 24, 2011, at the Kingston Residence of Marion following an extended illness.

On August 7, 1920, Clara Ellen was born in Richland Township of Marion County, the eldest of three children of the late John and Ruth (McChesney) Loyer.  On this day, she also was given the nickname of “Jim” from the doctor who delivered her at home, which stuck with her from that day on.

Clara Ellen graduated from Claridon High School in the Class of 1938, and was her class’s salutatorian.

After graduation, Clara Ellen was introduced to a young gentleman, Alfred “Al” Laucher, whom she married on January 18, 1941.  During their 49 wonderful years of marriage, they were almost always by each other’s side.  He preceded her in death on March 30, 1990.

A loving homemaker and farmer’s wife, Clara Ellen always helped wherever and whenever she was needed, whether it was tending to the chickens, working in the garden, or in the kitchen cooking up something good for the men in the fields.

A woman of deep faith, Clara Ellen was a charter member of the Timothy Lutheran Church, where she was active with the Women of the Church, Bible Study, and with the Senior Citizen’s Group.

Following Al’s retiring, he and Clara Ellen found they loved to travel.  Together they went on as many bus trips with senior groups as they could, and put many miles on their camper throughout the U.S.

Always smiling, Clara Ellen could best be described simply as “so sweet”, and the three most important things to her were her “faith, family, and friends.”

She will be dearly missed by her two daughters: Janet (Rex) Levering of Morral, and Marilyn Young of Columbus; a grandson, Richard Levering of Las Vegas, Nevada; three sisters-in-law: Mary Loyer, Dorine Laucher, and Jane Laucher, all three of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Clara Ellen was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jack Young; a brother, Harold “Dick” Loyer; and a sister, Marguerite Scharer.

The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services honoring her life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Timothy Lutheran Church, 3004 Marion Mount Gilead Rd., Marion, with Rev. Daniel Wilch and Rev. Joel Fetter officiating.  Burial will follow in Claridon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Timothy Lutheran Church.

Clara Ellen’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone at the Kingston Residence for their considerate and loving care of their mother.
