Leona Fern Walter, age 85, of Marion, died peacefully a 9:45 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Heartland of Marion, following her declining health.
She was born in Marion on July 14, 1926, to the late Delbert & Artie (Kincade) Smith.
She was united in marriage on November 2, 1946, with Donald R. "Bud" Walter who died January 3, 1990.
She was of Christian Faith and had attended First Church of the Nazarene in Marion.
Survivors include daughters Karen Walter & Nancy (Michael) Stanforth of Marion, granddaughter Traci (Anthony) Sanchez, grandson Kevin Spitzer, 3 great-grandchildren, 4 siblings, Russell Smith, Kenneth Smith, Imogene (Warren) Postell and Richard (Mary) Smith. Five siblings are deceased, Juanita Smith, Paul Smith, Perry Smith, Gerald Smith and Helen Weaver.
Leona previously worked for American Greeting Cards as a merchandiser and show-n-tell through Meijers.
Bowling was her favorite pastime including "Birdes' Girls League" over 30 years, where she made numerous friends. She also enjoyed reading and gardening.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 10:30 AM at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors with Associate Pastor Phillip Modlin officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday, July 22, 2011, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
