Maxine F. Saxton, age 94, formerly of Marion, died Thursday afternoon, July 21, 2011, at the Keller Oaks Healthcare Center in North Richland Hills, Texas, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
On December 14, 1916, Maxine was born in Marion, one of four children of the late Harry and Marie (Busler) Drake.
While under a tree in Raymond, Ohio, on July 2, 1938, Maxine married John V. Saxton. They shared 62 years together. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2000.
A caring homemaker, Maxine made sure she “took care of her children.” Her children, grandchildren and friends were truly her whole life.
Avid gardeners, Maxine and John always planted a large garden of vegetables, flowers, and took “beautiful” care of their yard. They also canned a lot of their vegetables to eat during the winter months.
Her family put it best, when they said simply “she was a special lady.” She also loved a good meal and could remember her favorite meals years later.
Maxine had been a member of the Pythian Sisters in Waldo.
She will be dearly missed by her three children: Judith (Bob) McClaren of Grove City, Linda (Tom) Willauer of Marion, and John E. (Kim) Saxton of Grapevine, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Drake of Simi Valley, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharron Nelson; a brother, Ralph Warren Drake; and a sister, Lorraine Soulier.
The Saxton family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will follow there at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gale Green officiating. Burial will follow in Raymond Cemetery.
