Timothy James Van Meter, 51, of Grasonville, MD died suddenly on Thursday morning, June 30, 2011 of a heart attack. He and his family were camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire at the time of his death.
He was born on July 11, 1959 in Findlay, Ohio. Tim graduated from Conotton Valley High School, Bowerston, Ohio, and The Ohio State University.
He was married to Angie (Kopsch) on August 27, 1983 at the Marion Salem United Methodist Church. She survives along with a son, Corporal Joel Van Meter, who is a Marine in the San Diego area. Tim also has a daughter, Stacie, who is a nursing student at Chesapeake College in Maryland.
He leaves 2 sisters, Christine (Jim) Gould of Gahanna, Susan (Bob) Houston of Marion, 2 brothers, Jerry (Linda) Van Meter of Marion, and Jed Van Meter of Columbus along with many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. His parents, Rev. James and Linda Van Meter of Marion also survive.
Tim worked 26 years for the Defense Industry as a software engineer in the Baltimore/Washington DC area. He was a certified licensed massage therapist in the Annapolis area.
He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed camping, kayaking, and biking as well as his rides on his Harley Davidson. He loved being around family and friends and brought much joy and laughter to all. He also was a great cook.
Tim was a proud Marine, devoted to his country. He was a member of the Saint Matthews United Methodist Church in Bowie, Maryland where he had taught a Sunday School Class and was involved in the music program.
Calling hours will be held at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion from 5PM to 8PM on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. The funeral service will be held at the Marion Salem United Methodist Church, 1640 Salem Rd. Caledonia, Ohio, at 10AM on Thursday morning. Rev. Joseph Sopher and Rev. Jared Williams will lead the service. Burial will be in the Grand Prairie Cemetery at a later date.
