Doris Spears, 76, of Marion, died at 3:59 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 16 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH.
She was born December 5, 1933 in Marion to the late Clyde D. and Ada Mae (Ault) Calbert. On June 29, 1957 she married Eugene D. Spears and he survives her in Marion.
Surviving are two daughters Leslee K. Spears of Marion; Paula J. Spears-Jones (Michael) of Kenton; one grandson Stuart D. (Alexandria Prater) Jones of Kenton, one granddaughter Arden L. Jones of Kenton; one great-granddaughter Johanna D. Jones of Kenton; 2 sisters Carrie Byrd of Loundonville, OH and Linda (Ron) Harper of Mt. Gilead, one brother William (Linda) Calbert of Rock Hill, SC; brother-in-laws Dr. Joe Spears 0f Paintsville, KY and Jack Griffiths of Marblehead, OH; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by stepmother Mary Calbert; two sisters, Rose Weber and Patricia Griffiths, one sister-in-law Jane Spears; and 3 nephews.
She was a 1953 graduate of Harding High School and was retired from McDonald’s restaurants of Marion. She was also a member of Fite Memorial Baptist Church for many years.
Doris loved her family and friends and spending time with them. She enjoyed playing cards, her cats, puzzles, watching television, talking on the telephone and writing in her journal. Doris always gave generously of her time and energy to others asking little for self. Her passing leaves a huge void in the lives of many.
Services for Doris Mae Spears will be held Friday, 1:00 p.m. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home in Marion by the Rev. David Carlyle. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery (new addition).
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
