Marietta LaVerne Steele Brush, 93, of Marion

Marietta LaVerne Steele Brush of Marion, OH, left this world on Monday, August 15, 2011, at the age of 93. Having lived a long, healthy life, she had been in failing health in recent months.

Being a New Year's baby, Marietta was born on January 1, 1918, in Marion, OH to Otto M. & Estella Mae Grace. She was one of 8 children and is survived by one brother.

Marietta graduated in 1935 from Harding High School. She was employed by Montgomery Ward and Spiegel in Marion, and the B.F. Goodrich plant in Green Camp. Moving to Columbus, she was employed at North American Aviation, Rockwell International, and retired in 1982 from Battelle Memorial Institute as a secretary.

On August 19, 1984 she married John Brush, and they had many good years together until he passed away on January 7, 2005.

In recent years she lived at Chadwick Place in Marion where she truly felt at home. She loved the gatherings with all of the residents and wouldn't miss a meeting or a chance to listen to the music and entertainment that was provided. As her family & friends at Chadwick loved her quick-wit and sense-of-humor.

Marietta (Grandma "Marietta") will be missed by her two daughters- Judith (James) O'Hare of Marion, and Janice Herrick of Columbus; her 4 grandchildren- Robin (Ralph) Loreno of Marion, Tamara (Doug) Corbin of San Antonio, TX, Jeffrey Short of Columbus, and Marlin (Jennifer) Herrick of Columbus; and 6 great-grandchildren- Ryan, Brooke, Haley, Eric, Meg & Mason. She will also be missed by Loa Grace, Bob and Mary Brush, many nieces and nephews and others.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Chadwick Place Community Room 1401 Wellness Drive at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011. A private inurnment will be held in Union Cemetery in Columbus, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Marion General Hospital Hospice, 278 Barks Road W. Marion, Ohio 43302, or to the activity fund at Chadwick Place, 1401 Wellness Drive, Marion, OH, 43302.
