Mary Rita McGlew, age 92, died peacefully at her home on Thursday morning, August 18, 2011. Mary Rita was a descendent of two notable Marion citizens, Edward Huber and Timothy Fahey.
She was born on January 17, 1919 in Marion and was the daughter of Frank V. Murphy and Marguerite Kirchner Murphy. Mary Rita was the only daughter with five brothers: Dan, Frank, Bob, Ed and Jackie.
She was a 1937 graduate of St. Mary School and a 1941 graduate of St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana.
She married James A. McGlew in April, 1951 in Marion having three children together: Mary M. Frericks-husband Tim Frericks in Marion, Ohio, Dr. Mary Jo McGlew in East Lansing, Michigan and Dr. James F. McGlew—wife Dr. Jackie Litt in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Mary Rita had four grandchildren: Katie Marguerite Grimm, Gretchen Renee Grimm, James Michael Grimm and Elliot James Litt McGlew.
Her parents, her husband, Dr. James A. McGlew (1921-2007), and three brothers predeceased her: Dan and wife Roseanne, Frank and wife Frances, and brother Jackie.
Surviving brothers are Bob and wife Phyllis, Ed and wife Shirley and sister in law, Aunt Deanie who all live in Florida.
Friends may call Sunday, August 21, 2011 from 2 to 5 PM at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors with Parish Prayers at 2 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 22, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Church with Fr. Michael Nimocks officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
