Loraine Lewis, 86, of Marengo

Loraine Lewis, age 86 of Marengo passed away Monday, September 19, 2011 at Country View of Sunbury.

She was born on October 26, 1924 in Nutter Fort, W.V. to the late Roscoe and Clara (Messenger) Russell.

A dedicated and devoted wife and mother; she had been a resident of Marengo area for over 60 years. She loved the outdoors, whether watching birds, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, or spending time in the woods around her homestead.  She enjoyed a passion for cardinals and canning the bounty from her garden.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, she was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and vacation bible school leader.  She led her family and many others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. A friend and confidant, she was a participant in the former Parents Without Partners Group and simply put was loved by all.

She treasured her family and took loving care of her son Freddie for 9 years following his accident. Loraine also assisted her husband in numerous ways with the family roofing business. She was also most generous of her time in caring for numerous grandchildren, whom were most special to her.

Those left to cherish her memory include children: Linda (Don) Blair, Steve (Debbie) Lewis both of Marengo, Connie (Tim) Fitzpatrick of Sunbury, 7 Grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great-grandson, brother Fred (Delores) Russell of Canal Fulton whom she helped raise beginning at her young age of 5, sister-in-law: Mary Russell of Nutter Fort, WV.

With much heart ache she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years: Carroll in 1986, son Freddie in 1988, daughter Karen in 1990, brothers R. “Earl” in 2011 and Clifford (Ollie) Russell in 1966, as well as sister Gladys (Ray) Thomas in 2008.

The family would like to thank the staff at Country View of Sunbury for their tender care.

Friends may call 6-9 p.m. on Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury. Funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 at the Morrow Bible Church, 423 County Road 204, Centerburg, Ohio 43011with Pastors Michael Herbert and Marvin Gassman officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery, after which all are invited back to the church for a dinner.
