Harold H. Hayes, 95, of Marion

Harold H. Hayes, age 95 of Marion and a former 42 year resident of N. Franklin St. in Delaware, passed away Wednesday October 5, 2001 at home.

He was born on July 24, 1916 in Nitro, West Virginia to the late Alpha F. and Delia (Huffman) Hayes, the youngest of 12 children.

A US Army veteran of WW II and Purple Heart recipient, he moved to Delaware in 1958 from Dunbar, W. V. and to Marion in 2000.  While in Dunbar, he worked 23 years for a Porcelain Enamel Ware Plant as plant Foreman.  Throughout his life he was a dedicated care giver to his parents and other family members.

A member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, life member and past Grand Knight of Delaware Council No. 1056 Knights of Columbus, and a life member of the Delaware Elks Lodge No 76. He was a member of 5 community theaters in Ohio and West Virginia, playing various roles, the production; “All My Sons” being his favorite. He directed numerous plays for his high school and also for St. Mary High School.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years: Mary K. (Bollinger) Hayes on March 31, 1991 and eleven siblings.

Survived by numerous nieces and nephews in West Virginia and special Grand-niece: Cindy (Larry) Ballinger of Marion and their children: Melissa, Clay, Michael, Aaron, and Grand-nephew: Gerald (Donna) Knox of Ft. Myers, Florida and their children: Sean, Danielle, Lily, Andrea.

Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m.-12:30p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware and a Mass of Christian Burial will follow 1:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, 82 E. William St., Delaware with Rev. Augustine Opke Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
