William “Bill” Urick, age 80, of Marion, passed away on Friday evening October 7, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
On January 11, 1931, Bill was born in Ashland, Kentucky, the son of Lou M. and Ella Frances (Fields) Urick. Bill served his country during the Korean War as a Marine and was awarded the Purple Heart.
On August 4, 1955, Bill was united in marriage to Betty Joan “Jo” Kelley in Ashland, Kentucky. Bill was employed by Marion Power Shovel and was a dedicated worker for the company for nearly 37 years until his retirement.
Bill can be described with many words, but the most important would be devoted family man. Bill had an incredible love for his family and cherished every moment shared with them. One of his favorite places to be was their cottage in Fremont, Ohio where he loved to fish. He was also a collector of antiques and you could find him and his family and friends playing bluegrass music together.
Bill is survived by his five children: Michael (Sheri) Roberts, Steve (Peggy) Roberts both of Titasville, Florida, Linda Dickerson, Cathy (Fiancé Tom Veith) Urick and Debbie (Mike) Edwards all of Marion, Ohio; 12 Grandchildren; 30 Great grandchildren; 3 Great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty “Jo” Urick; his parents Lou M. and Ella Frances Urick; 1 granddaughter; 1 great grandson; 2 brothers and 1 sister; one daughter-in-law Mary Roberts and one son-in-law John Dickerson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:30AM with burial to follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
