William Basil McCoy, 78, returned to his heavenly home on Monday, July 25, 2016, though he lost his battle he won the fight. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
On July 27, 1937, Bill was born in Yukon, West Virginia, one of six children of the late Elijah and Florence (Maynard) McCoy. He was immersed in the Seventh Day Adventist community. He was an acolyte for his Heavenly Father. Bill shared his love for the Lord through his music.
In 1957, Bill enlisted to serve his country, a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Upon his honorable discharge, Bill returned home to West Virginia, where he married his best friend, Patricia McCoy, on April 14, 1966. They were blessed with a large and loving family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia; three sons: Jon McCoy, Eddie Ray McCoy, and William Curry; three daughters: Lena Waddell, Karen Curry, and Sheila Stephenson; a brother, Joseph McCoy; a sister, Pattie Pepper; two grandchildren who were always by his side: Joshua Cox and Kialy Feightner; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Joseph McCoy; and two brothers: Jerry McCoy, and Jackie Rey McCoy.
His family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, at the Gunder/Hall & Snyder Funeral Home, 347 W. Center St., Marion. Services honoring his life and celebrating his homegoing will also be held there at 2 p.m. on Friday, with Pastor Marcellus de Oliveira officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council will follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. A reception will follow at the family home.
His family gratefully accepts flowers and donations to the funeral home.
