James F. O’Brien, age 92, of Marion, died Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the DeWolfe House.
James was born May 27, 1924 in Marion, Ohio to the late Carl and Mary (Temple) O’Brien. James was a proud veteran, serving his country in World War II in the Pacific Theater where he earned a Bronze Star. James married Eula Hawk who preceded him in death on August 6, 2004. James had many jobs including the Marion Power Shovel, Wolohan Lumber, the Erie Railroad and later in life, retired from the Marion Brick Company.
James was a former member of Salem United Methodist Church, past president of the US Open Drum and Bugle Corps and the Marion Union Station. He enjoyed helping with Marion 4H, as an adviser and was an avid train watcher.
James is survived by sons: Tom (Londa) O’Brien, Jeff (Anita) O’Brien, and Dennis (Denise) O’Brien; daughter, Teresa (Dawn Miller) O’Brien; and 24 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by a son, Larry O’Brien; brother, Robert O’Brien; and sister, Margot Ganson.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am Friday, August 12, 2016 at Claridon Cemetery with military honors presented by the Marion County United Veterans Council.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in James’ honor to the Marion Union Train Station.
