Sara Fetter of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away on September 21, 2016.
Sara was an unforgettable person. She was born in Marion, Ohio, where she was adored by a large, loving family. After a family move, Sara graduated from Bloomington High School South, where she was class president and lost the prom queen election by one vote – a vote she cast for her friend.
She graduated from Butler University with a degree in Anthropology and went on to obtain a masters degree in education, with a concentration in talented and gifted education, from the University of Denver, in Colorado. Sara loved learning about the world and sharing that understanding with her students.
Sara was a skilled teacher. She started a children’s theater company and taught in top early childhood programs in Denver and Bloomington. She loved her students, teaching with empathy, appreciation, and intellect. Sara understood kids, uniquely so. She leaves behind generations of students and children of friends and family who loved her, cherished her, and learned from her.
Sara’s friends from each stage of life remember her as extraordinarily warm, devoted, generous. That, and she had the best sense of humor around. Despite her white-knuckled fear of flying, she loved keeping in touch with friends in all parts by visiting them. She loved animals, music, and the arts. She could be found in a museum, exploring a bookstore, or singing the Indigo Girls in her car with friends. She saved one person’s life and countless hearts. She loved her friends and family with fidelity and without condition.
When life gave her great challenge, she faced it bravely, with both grace and hope. Her life will be an enduring source of inspiration to those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her fiancé, parents, sister and family, grandmother, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived as well by countless friends and their children.
Funeral services will be held Monday September 26, 2016 at Emanuel Lutheran Church with calling hours at 10 a.m. and a service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites Sara’s many friends and admirers to remember her by making donations in Sara’s name to the Monroe County Humane Association and College Mentors for Kids, in Indiana.
