Barbara J. “Barb” (Harper) Barnett, 74, of Marion

Barbara J. “Barb” (Harper) BarnettBarbara J. “Barb” (Harper) Barnett, age 74, of  Marion,  joined her beloved granddaughter, Echo, in heaven on Saturday afternoon, December 17, 2016, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving  family.

On April 13, 1942, Barb was born in Ironton, Ohio, she was the oldest child of the late Robert and Viola (Harper) Skaggs.

Barb had a very strong work ethic, while working for Whirlpool Corporation for twenty four dedicated years, working as an assembly line employee.

Always keeping busy, Barb was meticulous about her home and including doing the laundry. Never leaving the house until her bed was made.  Very particular about her lawn and yard work.

A woman of faith, Barb was previously baptized in the pond at her daughter’s home.  She also attended the Marion Freewill Baptist Church.

Most important of all to Barb, was her family and friends. She was always willing to assist with all of their needs    She loved to reminisce with stories and laughter and would go on for hours.  She enjoyed making memories with her family, by taking several special trips together to Hawaii.

Barb will be remembered for her feisty spirit and for being fiercely independent…though some may prefer to call her stubborn.  They will always picture her on the back porch, relaxing in her glider with her beloved chihuahua “Kitty”.

She will be dearly missed by her five children: William (Shirley) Harper, Deborah (James) Gattshall, both of Marion, Priscilla (Dana) Kincaid of  Bucyrus, Zachary (Julie) Harless, and Jacqueline LeMaster, both of Marion; nine grandchildren: Chris, Tim (Monica), Dustyn, James, Blake, Stephanie, Casey, Austin and Trinity; a grandson-in-law, Michael Zimmerman; five great-grandchildren; three siblings: Robert (Bev) Skaggs Jr., Della Robyn (Phil) Jones, and Edna Mae (Robert) Sullivan; a sister-in-law, Audrey Elswick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Echo Gattshall Zimmerman; and her brother, Roy Elswick.

Her family will greet friends from 11 – 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 W. Center St. Marion.  Services honoring her life will be held there at 1 p.m., with Chaplain Meg Knape officiating.  Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.

In honor of her granddaughter Echo, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Services, 1800 N. Blanchard St. #120, Findlay, OH 45840, for being an amazing resource to Barb’s family and granddaughter, Echo.
