Betty Jane Hicks, age 92, of Marion passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Presidential Center of Marion surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born April 2, 1924 in Marion, Ohio to the late Robert and Irene J. (Jackson) Altenberger.
During Betty’s working years, she helped in the WWII efforts by making shells and later worked at Ralph’s Restaurant in Marion, cleaned houses and babysat for many families.
Betty was a member of the Marion First Church of the Nazarene for many years. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty previously belonged to a bowling team and was an avid member of a canasta club. She will be missed for her made-from-scratch cooking.
Betty was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by many.
Betty is survived by children, David P. Patton and Debra G. Doolittle, grandchildren, Danielle (Niki) Doolittle, Deanna L. Doolittle, and Paulette R. Doolittle; greatgrandchildren, Dustin, Chelsea, Hannah, Samantha, Brianna, and Isaiah.
Betty was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Irene; husbands, Elias Patton III and Paul Hicks; grandson, David Franklin Doolittle II; brothers, George Altenberger and Robert Altenberger; and sister, Patricia Claffey.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 W. Center St., from 2 until 4 pm. A funeral will be held at the funeral home Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11 am with Prophets Ron and Jane Jolliff officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery.
