Linda L. (Scott) Hill, 73, of Marion/Crawford County

Linda L. (Scott) HillLinda L. (Scott) Hill, age 73, of Marion/Crawford County, OH, was given a new set of wings, flying to be with the Lord early Monday morning, December 12, 2016, at the Carlisle Place in Bucyrus, following a six year battle with cancer.

On March 14, 1943, Linda was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, the oldest of four children of the late John and Miriam (Cole) Scott.  She graduated in the last graduating class of North Robinson High School in the class of 1961.  She furthered her education at the Riverside School of Nursing, earning her registered nursing degree in 1964.

During school, Linda worked as a car hop at Mac’s Drive In in Bucyrus, where she met her future husband, James Hill.  They were married on September 6, 1964, and have cherished their fifty two years of marriage together.

Linda worked for over forty years as a registered nurse at many places and in many capacities.  She started at Bucyrus Community Hospital, where she had a hand in developing the Intensive Care Unit.  Over the years, she assisted several doctors, including Dr. Wiley, Dr. Bowersock, and Dr. Solt.  She served as the director of nursing at Heartland Nursing Home in Bucyrus, and had worked at the Marion Community Hospital, now the Smith Clinic.  Lastly, she worked as an industrial nurse at the Whirlpool Corporation for fifteen years, from where she retired in 1999.  She also served as a member of the Crawford County Board of Health.

A woman of faith, Linda was an active member of the Marion Christian Center, where she formerly helped run the food pantry and served in their Kinship Group.  Formerly, she had been a member of the Tiro and Kirkpatrick Methodist Churches.

Having a dream of one day being able to fly, Linda fulfilled that goal, earning her pilot’s license in the 1970’s.  She had several planes over the years, and enjoyed flying to different airports throughout Ohio in search of a good meal or ice cream.  She also had many memorable flights, having one good story come from a trip to Pittsburgh for a nurse’s meeting she wanted to attend.

An excellent cook and baker, Linda “knew how to put out a good spread”, making great meals for all occasions.  She inherited a love for cooking from her mother, and was well known for her special, made from scratch, red velvet cake.  She also was a very skilled seamstress, making countless dresses for her daughter and outfits for her son.

Having a green thumb, Linda loved tending to her flower garden every year.

Always putting the wants and needs of others before her own, Linda truly had a generous heart.  She loved her family and friends deeply, and always wanted to make them feel as special as they were to her.  One way she did that was by making the person’s favorite desert, from scratch and with love for their birthday.  When her health kept her from being able to cook, she would make a trip to her favorite cupcake store to get them something she knew they would enjoy.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, James Hill of Marion; two children: Janel (Patrick) Hord of Bucyrus, and Gregory (Jill) Hill of Marion; four grandchildren: Phil (Becca) Hord, Colleen, Mallory, and Melissa Hord; three siblings: Jim (Peg) Scott, of Crestline, Ken (Karen) Scott of Tiro, and Nancy (Randy) Sturtz of Fairborn, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016, at the Marion Christian Center (address below).  Services celebrating her life will be held there at 6 p.m., with the team at the Marion Christian Center officiating.  A meal in her honor for family and friends will follow at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Christian Center, c/o Parking Lot Fund, 1550 Richland Rd., Marion, OH 43302, or to Hord Livestock, c/o Hord Cares (a program where the employees of Hord Livestock give back to the matters that touch their heart), 911 OH-98, Bucyrus, OH 44820.
